On May 25, 2021, the Hermosa Beach City Council proclaimed June 2021 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Hermosa Beach, joining with Hermosa’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) community members to celebrate their strength, courage and perseverance.
The City plans to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month by flying the Pride flag, lighting Pier Plaza in the Pride flag colors and supporting residents Izzy and Jose Bacallao’s plan to repaint Hermosa’s lifeguard tower immediately north of the Hermosa Beach pier in the rainbow colors of the Pride flag for Pride month in June and through the end of summer. The L.A. County Board of Supervisors approved a motion, authored by Supervisor Janice Hahn, that paved the way for the repainting.
