Starla Smith joined the Hermosa Beach Police Department in January 1999 as a Records Technician. She was then assigned as a Police Service Officer and graduated from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Corrections Academy in 2002. As a Police Service Officer (PSO), Supervisor Smith worked in the jail, records bureau and was a PSO trainer for 9 years.
Supervisor Smith was promoted to her current rank in December 2015. As the PSO Supervisor, she was responsible for the supervision of the Records bureau, Jail, and Police Service Officers. As a supervisor, she successfully prepared the Department for multiple jail inspections and records audits. She is currently assigned to the Court Liaison and Property and Evidence unit. In 2020, Supervisor Smith coordinated a full inventory of the property and evidence unit, which included over 7,000 items.
