CIP 191 Annual Street Improvements
Project Information
This project consists of pavement rehabilitation of streets including paving and striping of approximately 1.6 miles of roadway. The rehabilitation includes the full length of Prospect Avenue within City limits from Artesia Boulevard to just north of Herondo Street, along 7th Street from Pacific Coast Highway to Prospect Avenue, along 17th Street from Prospect Avenue to east of Golden Avenue, and Golden Avenue north of 16th Street.
Along with the construction of 36 curb ramps on the selected streets, improvements include reconstruction of sidewalks to address barriers to accessibility such as areas that are too steep, deteriorated, or narrow. This project helps further the goal of providing a safer and accessible path for pedestrians within the right-of-way to meet American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the latest federal standards. Streets have been selected based on condition assessments, with consideration of complaints and suggestions submitted by residents.
Prospect Ave. Curb Ramps (CIP 601)/ Longfellow Sidewalk Improvements (CIP 606)/ ADA Improvements (CIP 698)
Project Information
This project consists of improvements to approximately 4,500 sq. feet of sidewalk portions on Longfellow Ave. and 12 curb ramps along Prospect Ave. Improvements include reconstruction of sidewalks to address barriers to accessibility such as areas that are too steep, deteriorated, or narrow. This project helps further the goal of providing a safer and accessible path for pedestrians within the right-of-way to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the latest federal standards.
City Sidewalk Improvements (CIP 195)/ Metal Tree Grates (CIP 760)
Project Information
This project consists of improvements to approximately 2,174 sq. feet of sidewalk portions on Hermosa Ave. between 13th St. and 14th Court.; 11th St. between Hermosa Ave. and Beach Dr.; 34th between Hermosa Ave. and Palm Dr.; Valley Park Ave. between 18th St. and end southbound; Valley dr. between 6th St. and 8th St.
Along with the construction of two ADA curb ramps on Hermosa Ave., between 13th St. and 14th Court, improvements include reconstruction of sidewalks to address barriers to accessibility such as areas that are too steep, deteriorated, or narrow. This project helps further the goal of providing a safer and accessible path for pedestrians within the right-of-way to meet American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the latest federal standards.

The City of Hermosa Beach began construction at key intersections along Pacific Coast Highway. The work includes sidewalk repairs, ADA compliant curb ramps, additional crosswalk striping, and traffic signal modification at the following intersections of PCH:
- Aviation Blvd./ 10th St. and PCH
- Pier Ave./ 14th St. and PCH
The City is working with CalTrans and EBS General Engineering to finalize the signal pole, timing, traffic loops and final striping.

ADA Component
ADA improvements included with this project are improved pedestrian signal, crosswalks and ADA curb ramps at the intersections of PCH and Pier Ave. and PCH and Aviation Blvd.
Paving Project (Various Locations - CIP 186 & 190)
Construction
As of Monday, July 26th, 2021, Hardy & Harper, Inc., our construction contractor has begun reconstruction of various streets for this important CIP Project. The work includes the cold milling of these residential streets, then pavement resurfacing with new rubberized asphalt concrete. During the cold milling of the streets, access will be limited during this operation, and finding alternative access is recommended. As needed, limited local access and emergency access will be allowed.

For CIP projects 186 and 190, over 2.3 miles of streets have been selected throughout the city to be rehabilitated.
The selected streets are as follows:

- 19th St (from Prospect Ave to Harper Ave)
- 20th Pl (from Prospect Ave to Harper Ave)
- 20th St (from Prospect Ave to Harper Ave)
- 21st St (from Prospect Ave to Harper Ave)
- 24th St (from Prospect Ave to Harper Ave)
- 24th St (from Park Ave to Valley Dr)
- Ardmore Ave (from Pier Ave to 8th St)
- Aubrey Ct (entire street)
- Aubrey Park Ct (entire street)
- Gould Terrace (entire street)
- Harper Ave (from Artesia Blvd to 15th St/Palm Ln)
- Montgomery Dr (entire street)
- Ocean Dr (from 14th St to Aviation Blvd)
- Palm Dr (from 2nd St to 1st St)
- Springfield Ave (asphalt cul-de-sac area)
- 24th St (from Hillcrest Dr to End)
- Hillcrest Dr (from 24th St to 21st St)
- 15th Pl (from Bonnie Brae St to Mira St)

Streets have been selected based on condition assessments, with consideration of complaints and suggestions submitted by residents.
ADA Component
This project will reconstruct curb ramps on the targeted streets to be ADA compliant. The estimated cost of these ADA improvements is $170,000.

Construction will start September 20, 2021 and will be completed within 30 calendar days:

Access to driveways may be temporarily limited while work is being performed on a street. "No Parking" signs will be posted along the work areas to allow access for personnel and equipment. These signs will be posted at least 72 hours prior to start of work.
ADA Component
This project includes restriping and new signage which will bring City ADA parking spots in City lots to ADA compliant standards. These ADA improvements are estimated to cost $32,000
8th Street Improvement Project (CIP 14-173)

- Creation of a continuous, accessible sidewalk on the north and south sides of the street
- Removal of encroachments from the public right of way as necessary
- Refreshing of crosswalks and striping along the corridor
A meeting for residents was held on Wednesday June 26th from 3:30 to 4:30 PM at the Clark Building located at 861 Valley Drive to answer any questions about the upcoming construction.
The City will be working with Gentry General Engineering on this project. Provided below is a copy of the tentative construction schedule and the final construction plans for the 8th Street project.
During construction additional notices and instructions will be provided to residents along the corridor in advance of construction beginning on each block. The schedule for construction was as follows:

- July 8 - Bard St to Cypress Ave.
- July 15 - Cypress Ave to Loma Dr.
- July 22 - Loma Dr to Manhattan Ave.
- July 29 - Manhattan Ave to Hermosa Ave.
South Side of Street:
- August 5 - Hermosa Ave. to Manhattan Ave.
- August 12 - Manhattan Ave. to Bayview Dr.
- August 19 - Bayview Dr. to Monterey Blvd.
- August 26 - Loma Dr to Cypress Ave.
- September 3 - Cypress Ave to Valley Dr.

Prospect Avenue Curb Ramp Upgrades (CIP 16-691 and 17-687)

The City of Hermosa Beach will begin construction the week of April 29, 2019 at intersections along Prospect Avenue between Hollowell Avenue and 6th Street. The work includes creation of ADA compliant curb ramps, curb and gutter repair, and crosswalk markings and striping.

Hermosa Avenue Pavement Resurfacing Project (CIP 16-174)

The City of Hermosa Beach began construction the week of Sept. 17 on Hermosa Avenue between 10th Street (south) and 26th Street (north), highlighted on the map to the right. The project will include the following improvements:
- Remove and re-construct curb ramps to meet current Americans with Disability Act (ADA) requirements
- Remove and replace selected portions of curbs and gutters as well as sidewalk
- Grind existing asphalt street surface and resurface with new asphalt
- Install new crosswalks at 10th, 11th, 13th and 14th streets; as well as new bus shelters, benches and trash receptacles along the route.
- Upgrade traffic signals at 11th, 13th and 14th streets.
