Hermosa Beach Municipal Code 9.38.030 - An operating permit shall be required for every Unmanned Aircraft and Unmanned Aircraft System  - "UAS" commonly known as a drone -  operated in the City.  No person shall operate an Unmanned Aircraft System in the City without first obtaining an operating permit and obtaining an identification number assigned by the City and submission of a copy of the Certificate of Aircraft Registration/Proof of Ownership issued by the Federal Aviation Administration. Permits are good for one year and are renewable annually.  View Drone Guidelines.

Drone permits must be applied for in-person at the Hermosa Beach Police Station (540 Pier Avenue) from Monday to Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. as drone(s) must be inspected by Police Department staff prior to permit issuance. Please review the conditions and requirements for each permit. For questions, please contact the Police Records/Business office at (310) 318-0360.

After police department approval has been approved, permit fees may be paid at the Finance Cashier's Office, Room 101 in City Hall (1315 Valley Drive), Monday - Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
