Brandon Walker, who now oversees the functions of the City of Hermosa Beach’s former Human Resources and Finance departments, was named as director of the City’s Administrative Services Department on September 16.
The Administrative Services Department combines the responsibilities of the City’s former Human Resources and Finance departments and was established in July of this year to optimize resource allocation for the benefit of Hermosa Beach residents, City Council and staff.
As head of the recently consolidated department, Walker will play a key role in assisting the City’s collective recruitment efforts and leading the maintenance of employee benefits and labor relations, along with supporting the City's Civil Service Board and administering its Risk Management Program. He will also oversee management of the City's financial operations and resources to ensure its financial health and stability, including budgeting and financial forecasting; accounting and financial reporting; revenue collection and management; purchasing and procurement; debt management and grant administration, among other services.
“We are thrilled to welcome Brandon Walker as the new director of our Administrative Services Department,” said City Manager Suja Lowenthal. “He brings a wealth of financial and administrative experience to the Hermosa team, and his leadership will be instrumental in ensuring the City’s financial health and supporting our efforts to enhance the quality of life for all Hermosa Beach residents.”
Walker joins the City of Hermosa Beach after 3 years of service as the Director of Finance for the City of Long Beach Water Department. Before that, he served as Financial Services Officer for Long Beach Energy Resources and as Finance Administrator for the Long Beach Police Department.
“I’m grateful for this opportunity to lead the Administrative Services Department for the City of Hermosa Beach,” said Brandon Walker. “My focus will be on fostering collaboration and addressing the needs of both our City and the community, as we work together to streamline services and better support our residents.”
Walker received his Master of Business Administration from the University of California, Los Angeles.
The Administrative Services Department was introduced as part of the City’s Fiscal Year 2024–2025 Budget, which was approved during City Council’s June 11 meeting.
