At its March 12th meeting, City Council recognized the month of March as American Red Cross Month. This is a special time to recognize and thank American Red Cross volunteers and donors. Our community depends on the American Red Cross, which relies on volunteers and the generosity of the public to perform its mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies.

Winter Sand Berm
The City is currently working with the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors to remove the winter sand berm near our Pier. In November of each year, the County constructs a temporary sand to protect Lifeguard headquarters for the winter weather season. The berm is typically removed in March. The timing of removal is scheduled to avoid the Spring grunion runs so their eggs are not disturbed. The County’s biologist confirmed on Sunday that there were no grunion eggs present, which allowed for the berm leveling to commence. Sand movement started on Monday, March 11th and is expected to take a several days to complete.
Street Repairs
Following the many rain events, City staff is actively working to address pavement condition repairs and reports of potholes on our roadways. In just the last two months, staff responded to 42 requests for street repairs and will continue to proactively work on repairs on a weekly basis. Hermosa Beach Public Works is also coordinating with Caltrans to expedite street repairs on Pacific Coast Highway as they are reported. We encourage residents to continue to report street repair needs through our GoHermosa system.

In Case You Missed It
At its March 12th meeting, Hermosa Beach City Council recognized Women’s History Month 2024 with a special recognition of the HERmosa Circle organization. Council extend its sincerest appreciation for continuing to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity. Collectively, we can all inspire inclusion.
Additionally, it is rare that you see an all female patrol team on shift, but on February 27th that’s exactly what happened here in the Hermosa Beach Police Department. Thank you for keeping us all safe! 👮♀️
