The City Council meets regularly on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month in Council Chambers at City Hall, 1315 Valley Drive, at 6 p.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend! Special meetings and study sessions may also be scheduled and noticed as required by the Brown Act. Meeting agendas, minutes, and videos are available online.

Mayor's Town Hall Forum

Join Hermosa Beach Mayor Dean Francois for his first Town Hall Forum.  The town hall-style meeting will serve as an opportunity for residents to meet the mayor, ask questions and have an open discussion about the City of Hermosa Beach and its community.

The forum will begin with City Manager Lowenthal addressing community questions about City services and operations. This question-and-answer session will be followed by an open discussion hosted by Mayor Francois inviting residents to share their thoughts on local issues such as: 

  • Facilities assessments, including proposed City Hall renovations
  • The future of professional beach volleyball tournaments
  • Parking and traffic
  • Public involvement in council meetings and City issues
  • Economic development

About the City Council… 

 

Members of the City Council are elected at large for a four-year term. One Councilmember is chosen by fellow members to serve as Mayor and one Councilmember is chosen by fellow members to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. Both the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem serve for a period of approximately 9.6 months.

Council responsibilities are to establish policy, secure revenues, adopt an annual budget, appoint a City Manager, City Attorney, City Prosecutor, and City Boards and Commissions members, and to rule on such matters prescribed by the laws of the State of California and the City of Hermosa Beach.

City Council Committee Appointments

Hermosa Beach City Councilmembers serve as representatives on various regional and local associations, boards, commissions, districts, groups and governing bodies as well as Council subcommittees dedicated to a specific area of interest, event or project. A primary delegate and alternate are generally appointed by Council on an annual basis with updates as needed.   

Statements of Economic Interests / Fair Political Practices Commission Filings

 

The City Councilmembers and the City Treasurer are elected officers identified in Government Code Section 87200 and file statements of economic interests with the City Clerk's office.  Copies of the statements of economic interests filed by these elected officers may be obtained by visiting the offices of the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) or the City Clerk.  The physical address of the FPPC is 428 J Street, Suite 620, Sacramento, California 95814.  The physical address of the City Clerk's office is 1315 Valley Drive, Hermosa Beach, California 90254 - call (310) 318-0204 for details.  The statements of economic interests for some State and local government agency elected officers may be available in electronic format on the FPPC's website at http://www.fppc.ca.gov
