On Saturday October 3rd, from 8am to noon at the Hermosa Beach Community Center (710 Pier Avenue) Athens Services and the City of Hermosa Beach will be hosting its semi-annual paper shredding and compost giveaway. The event is free and open to Hermosa Beach residents only (ID or bill required). COVID-19 safety precautions will be in place with the shred event set up in a drive-up format and masks are required to pick up compost. 

This is your opportunity to clean out old files and properly dispose of papers without compromising your personal information. The paper shredding will be done on-site and you will be able to witness the destruction of your documents. After the documents are thoroughly shredded, the paper is recycled. Residents may bring up to three banker size boxes for shredding per household. Please remove all binder clips.

Athens’ compost is a blend of organics material including a mix of green waste, wood waste, and food scraps.* Compost is OMRI Listed® and licensed by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The compost giveaway is a self-service event so please bring a shovel and sturdy container (no plastic bags). Compost is available while supplies last (30-gallon limit for the first hour). The service is drive up only – no walk ins allowed. Gloves and eye protection are recommended.
